ASTM A193 Grade B7 threaded rod is alloy-steel bolting material for pressure-related and other special-purpose service when specified by the project. This page covers continuous-thread rod or cut-to-length pieces; it should not be ordered only by the words “B7 rod.”

Order definition

Specify diameter, thread series, total length, cut-end condition and quantity.
State whether the requirement is full-length rod, finished studs, or stock length for later cutting.
Confirm plain/black condition or a project-approved coating system.
State MTC, heat traceability, marking, inspection and packing requirements.

If the rod will become flange studs, confirm finished stud length, chamfer, nut grade and assembly requirements before cutting.

The reference drawing applies to a full-thread piece with flat chamfered ends. End-to-end length and effective thread length are separate inspection dimensions. Confirm the finished length after cutting and chamfering.

Application Environment

Use is controlled by the project specification for ASTM A193 B7, the finished component design and the selected corrosion-protection system. Bare alloy steel requires appropriate storage and may require project-specified protection for humid or corrosive service.

Installation & Handling Precautions

Maintain heat or batch traceability through cutting when required.
Do not leave burrs, incomplete chamfers or damaged first threads after cutting.
Confirm thread fit after coating and before packing.
Protect finished pieces from standing water, impact and mixed-grade storage.
Use project-approved nuts, lubrication and tightening procedure for the final joint.
