Product Details

High Strength Hex Bolt is selected against the approved joint drawing and service conditions.

The former standalone ASTM A325 and A490 specifications were replaced by ASTM F3125/F3125M; A325 and A490 remain grade designations. Confirm the requested edition, grade, type, units and bolt geometry separately from DIN, ISO or GB products. The size and finish lists on this page describe the product family, not every permitted standard, grade and coating combination.

Do not assume that hot-dip galvanizing, zinc plating or a trade-name zinc-flake finish is acceptable for every high-strength grade. For A490 requests, confirm the coating provisions of the specified edition and any required qualification and assembly tests before quotation. The current supply reference is DIN 931 / DIN 933 / ISO 4014 / ISO 4017 / GB 5782 / GB 5783 / ASTM F3125/F3125M Grades A325 / A490 (edition and compliance to confirm), with Alloy Steel / Carbon Steel, Black / Zinc Plated / HDG / Dacromet, and M8–M64/8.8-12.9.

Final dimensions, tolerances, grade or class, coating system, matched components, inspection documents and packing must be confirmed against the purchase order, approved drawing or project specification before production.

Selection & Use Steps

  1. Identify the governing standard, edition, grade or class, type and unit system.
  2. Confirm bolt head geometry, diameter, thread, length, grip and compatible nuts and washers against the joint drawing.
  3. Check whether the requested coating is permitted for that specific grade, type and edition; identify its specification and required qualification.
  4. Confirm thread allowances, lubrication and applicable assembly tests and inspection documents.
  5. Agree the installation and acceptance procedure before supply.

Technical Drawing

Hex-head bolt technical catalog sheet with head-specific dimensions and reference geometry

The side elevation uses under-head length l, excluding the head. Confirm thread diameter d, thread length b, head height k and width across flats s in the separate end view. Partial thread is illustrated; full-thread, fine-thread and other variants require confirmation against the selected standard.

The illustration is a dimension-selection reference, not a manufacturing drawing and not to scale. Final geometry, tolerances, material, finish and mating-part fit must follow the buyer-approved drawing and applicable standard.

Application Environment

Assess moisture, salt, chemicals, temperature and dissimilar-metal exposure against the project requirements. A finish name alone does not establish service life or suitability.

Do not assume that hot-dip galvanizing, zinc plating or a trade-name zinc-flake finish is acceptable for every high-strength grade. For A490 requests, confirm the coating provisions of the specified edition and any required qualification and assembly tests before quotation.

Installation & Handling Precautions

  • Verify product markings, standard, grade and compatible bolt, nut and washer components before assembly.
  • Protect the specified coating and lubrication; do not recoat, relubricate or substitute components without the required approval.
  • For galvanized assemblies, confirm coated-thread fit and the specified nut lubrication and assembly-testing requirements.
  • For pretensioned structural joints, follow the governing pre-installation verification, tightening and inspection procedure.
  • Do not use a generic torque value; the approved procedure depends on the actual assembly and joint.
